Stress Management - Don't Do This!

by Sangdam 2021. 8. 11.

Recently, while searching for stress, I came across an article about the best way to relieve stress. This information was based on the results of a British study that found that reading for a few minutes restores all of the body's biorhythms to a state of normalcy and tranquility. Then, listening to music, drinking coffee, and taking a walk were introduced as effective ways to deal with stress in that order. But strangely enough, there are very few people around me who say that reading relieves or prevents stress.

That was several years ago. It's time to take a break somewhere while driving for a rocky tour. We shared the prepared food and were taking a break while looking at something on our smartphones. However, the Westerners who are right next to us were reading books leisurely in the warm sunlight even in that short time. Oh… How could this happen... After the trip, I shared this experience with others. Even among Koreans who like books, no one said that they took a break from reading. Not a single person read a book, especially while driving and taking a break.

As everyone knows, stress is not good and everyone knows to some extent, if not systematically, that there are many factors that cause stress. There are countless stressors under the influence of unexpected traumatic events as well as socioeconomic factors or psychosocial environment. Also, the intensity of the same stressor is felt differently depending on the personality of the individual. In addition, we know that continuous stress negatively affects human emotions, cognition, and behavior, and has a profound effect on physical and mental health. But more importantly, humans themselves do not know exactly how to reduce this stress, but they know roughly.

As mentioned above, we are well aware that reading, music, walking, and exercise can be used as important tools for relieving stress. Furthermore, most of us are well aware of which methods are right for us to relieve stress.

One of the most important things in counseling is to find out why the client doesn't change well. There may be a problem with the qualities of the counselor, the environment may be an anomaly, and there may be a crack in the rapport between the counselor and the client. But in many cases, clients say, “Sam, why can't I change like this? I don't know why my condition doesn't get better?" It seems that the answer to this question can be replaced with the question, “Are you doing the things I told you every day?” During counseling, the client is taught and practiced various coping methods suitable for his or her condition. However, in many cases, this coping method seems to be a one-time event that occurs once a week only during counseling hours. Of course, this may not be the case. And that's why clients come to counseling... However, it cannot be denied that the former also accounts for a large percentage.

We know almost everything. How to relieve stress. It's never too late, so let's implement your own way to de-stress every day. Whatever it is, never forget it...

However, there are some ways to relieve stress that we should avoid. If the method takes too much time, if the financial burden is too much, or if it harms our body, or if it harms other people, then these methods of coping with stress should be avoided. When you say that driving is your way of coping with stress, if you drive an expensive Ferrari and run around the town for hours with the engine roaring at a speed that can only be seen in an F1 race... this is not a true stress method. Of course, neither alcohol nor cigarettes are true ways to cope with stress.

Whatever the case, don't forget that you need to stick to your own way of coping with stress on a daily basis. You must not forget that this is the secret to maintaining your physical and mental health so that you can live happily until the moment you die.
